#NonIdentikit

Untitled

On twitter last week Sarah McIntyre was talking about how the illustrated faces we see of beautiful female characters are often all essentially the same and how this shouldn't be the case. Where are all the wonky noses and strong jaw lines that we see in real life beautiful women? She started the hashtag #NonIdentikit and challenged people (and herself) to draw 20 women that break from the mould in some way. She wrote a blog post about it which you can read here. It's such a good idea so I immediately joined in. I really enjoyed this, hence there being 22 rather than 20.

I think I try to draw all sorts of people anyway but I definitely think doing this will have helped me to remember even more to include all sorts of faces while I'm drawing. Some of these are drawn from photos and some I did out of my head. If you decide to have a go then leave me a comment, I'd love to have a peek.

Days 15 - 21 // 365 2015

15/365 // 2015

Day 15 - Oops. I spent all day thinking, "remember to take a photo" and then never did. Luckily (?) I took this crappy self portrait so it wasn't a complete fail.

Day 16 - This daffodil is pretty hardcore, it's been cold and frosty but it just keeps getting yellower.

Day 21 -Too gloomy today to take proper photos of these guys but I had to at least try and show them off. They're too cute.

Projector Love (and a tattoo studio)

Untitled

Decorating is well under way at the new tattoo studio. I'd only seen it from the outside so on Sunday I went along for a nosey while Will did a quick second coat on the plane. I fell a little in love with the projector.

Untitled Untitled Untitled

I can't wait to see it finished, it's going to look amazing. I'm sure it'll be worth all the waiting and work the guys have put into it.

Sketchbook ~ Ham

Untitled

It's been a while since I've shared sketchbook bits. These are from the last little books I'd been keeping in my bag, I started the new year with a planner / bag sketchbook in one so I spent new years eve scribbling away to make sure I'd used these all up. The new years eve scribbles aren't here though, I saved your eyes that.

First Weekend

Untitled

Mum and Dad came to visit the first weekend of the year and aswell as giving us lots of lovely things (thank you ^_^ ) we went out and about for wanderings.

Untitled

We got to the river at the perfect time. The combination of sun and stillness made for the most amazing reflections. It really looked like the water was super clear and you could just see the secret underwater bridge that you now totally believed existed.

We went to feed the ducks and there were a tonne of gulls hanging around and it turned out they were pretty adept bread catchers. It was amazing how they could swoop in and turn to catch the food.

Illustration ~ Gifts

Untitled

I did this for thank you cards to Will's family. It's a combination of the Christmas gifts I got from them, which as you can see, was a mighty fine selection deserving of it's own drawing. I drew it pretty small and am especially pleased with my Avenged Sevenfold cover. It's pretty much exactly the same as the real one.

30th December 2014

Untitled

A few last snaps from 2014 from a classic between Christmas and New Year walk.

Untitled Untitled

These flowers clearly have no idea what time of year it is.

Untitled

A section of the river was frozen in the meadow so like the grown ups we are we threw stones at it for a while. It was surprisingly hard to break the ice.

Not too shabby for the end of a year.

Crochet ~ Shaun the Sheep

Simply Crochet Issue 27

The new issue of Simply Crochet is a pretty big one for me. I was asked to design an amigurumi Shaun The Sheep to coincide with the new film! That was a pretty exciting email, I can tell you. I'm still a little shocked I had the chance to be involved in something connected to Aardman. Including the fact that the drawings I did to show my ideas would have been sent to them. Even though I wasn't showing them as an illustrator the idea that my drawings of Shaun the Sheep were seen by anyone at Aardman is pretty daunting and wow. That boucle yarn was amazing, although a little tricky to work with. Worth it though. (You could definitely use regular yarn and he'd still look mighty fine.)

Simply Crochet Issue 27

Aswell as my Shaun I am also lucky enough to have an interview in this issue! I don't really know what to say about it. Obviously it's an amazing thing but my shy awkwardness is making me want to turn my head and blush rather than type anything.

Simply Crochet Issue 27

It's about a year since I had my first piece in the magazine which isn't something I thought I'd be saying if ever let alone now, so thank you everyone at Simply Crochet for working with me. I don't think seeing my work printed will ever get boring so hopefully I'll keep coming up with things you want to use  ^_^

Days 1 - 8 // 365 2015

I was wondering whether to do some sort of 365 project this year and saw Kaylah's post about photo a day projects and felt inspired to have another go. I managed it once before but wasn't all that happy with half of the photos so I'm going to try a bit harder this year. During last year I started taking fewer and fewer photos which definitely needs rectifying and this should help with that.

1/365 // 2015

1 ~ A cosy start to the year.

2/365 // 2015

2 ~ I have a sun catcher hanging in my studio window that hits the room differently throughout the day.

3/365 // 2015

3 ~ Love a bulb photo.

4/365 // 2015

4 ~ The river was doing a pretty fine reflection job while my mum and dad were visiting last weekend.

5/365 // 2015

5 ~ Willliam, friend of pigeons.

6/365 // 2015

6 ~ I held my suncatcher infront of the flash for this shot. I'd been playing with sweet wrappers and my phone camera over christmas and now want to try it with everything. Ugly unicorn courtesy of Will. I love his unicorns so much.

7/365 // 2015

7 ~ My little oak tree is still going strong.

8/365 // 2015

8 ~ This is my 'crap! 365!' sleepy face. I imagine it won't be the last but I ended up liking the photo so it's ok I didn't take any others that day.
