Quentin Blake

Untitled

I found out a while ago that there was a Quentin Blake exhibition on in Diss so on Monday Will and I ventured out to Diss for the first time to find the Corn Hall and some Blake prints. It was so good. I always think of Quentin Blake as a children's book illustrator so seeing some work that wasn't for children was really interesting. I loved it. The girls with dogs are my favourite I think, there was another one where the dog was sitting with his paw on a piece of paper that had yellow on it which I really liked.
Also, I found Diss to be really quite pretty. We didn't adventure round it much because it was too cold to wander about, we just walked back down through a bit of the town centre to get to the train station again but there's a big park with some kind of lake in the middle and lots of little independent shops and a bakery selling the tastiest pork and apple sausage rolls (it's never too cold to stop at a bakery) and I imagine I'll go back at some point with a camera.

I used google image to find the illustrations, the first links to here and the second here. The photo at the top is mine and was taken at Diss train station.

Shop Update and Slightly Crazed Book Love

Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled

I think part of why the computer is not seeming like somewhere I want to be recently is because I've spent quite a lot of time over the past week editing photos (ha, I use the term loosely, I try and do as little as possible) and listing things in my shops. Which I find repetitive and boring but it's a necessary evil and I'm always happier for knowing I've finally listed things I should have made available a while ago.

Also, the computer is not as good as books. I've recently been reading Paper: An Elegy by Ian Sansom which I think everyone should read because it's so interesting and I recently started Pride and Prejudice for the first time (I totally thought I wasn't going to be particularly bothered by it. WRONG!) and all I want to do is keep reading and I'm trying to just get on with more important things but books have some sort of magic power over me. "Why would you get on with those amigurumi creatures when you could be reading my wonderful words? Come on Becky, just have a cup of tea and pretend you're in the old days."

Anyways, I'd appreciate it if you headed over to my Etsy or my Folksy (or bothy) and had a look, there's different coloured fingerless mittens and more card designs. I try to keep the shops pretty even but there are some things I have only one of so if you do use both Etsy and Folksy it's worth keeping an eye on both for the variations.

And remember, all orders during January are going out with a free gift :)

Week 3

15.365 Day 15 Some washi tape I ordered with Christmas money (from here). I love tape far too much.

16.365 Day 16 A bit of my desk.

17.365 Day 17 Will's necklace collection.

19.365 Day 19 Taking photos for the shops. (here and here)

21.365 Day 21 Snowy house from our back garden.

It's almost the end of week 4 already and I'm only just getting week 3 photos off my camera. I am computer lazy at the moment, but that might not be a bad thing really seeing as I'm getting lots of other things done.

Instax Snow

Untitled Untitled Untitled 3.52

Taken on my walk on Wednesday. I haven't used my instax mini in a while which, when I use it, I realise is stupid because I love it. Which also reminds me that I need to be using more film in general...

Snow!

Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled

We don't get snow very often so I'm still completely amazed by it when we do and then go crazy taking photos of snow covered trees. I'm also lucky enough to not be badly affected by it (touch wood) unlike all the people I walked past on Tuesday not moving in cars. I can concentrate on finding it pretty and then being confused when I hear people complaining about it, "but it makes everything so pretty and means it's cold which means I get to wear lots of layers and scarves and stuff, what's not to like?..."
If this isn't enough snow photos for you, there are more to look at on my flickr and probably more to come seeing as we apparently have more snow on the way :)

(I won't be so happy about it when I fall over on the oh so icy paths, but for now it's all good)

Illustration ~ Aloe Vera King

Aloe Vera King Pt.1 Aloe Vera King Pt.2

A silly little comic starring Will and his sister. I just wanted to draw cute manga Lauren.
I have set up a web comic/blog just for things like this but I'm still fiddling with it so I shan't link to it just yet...

Week 1

5.365 6.365 1.52 7.365

Last year I wanted to do a 365 photo a day project and kept it vague thinking that would help and I didn't manage it which I think is pretty stupid because I love taking photos. So, this year I thought if I was a little more specific it might help so I was trying to think of a topic and near the end of last year I saw Elsie mention she was going to do 365 home photos so I stole the idea *evil laugh*. I'm in the house every day, for most of the day so it's (hopefully) not a difficult topic to achieve and by the end of the year I might have a lovely collection of photos showing me how awesome our house and the things that happen in it are which will be a nice thing to look at when I'm feeling a bit whingey and thinking everything is rubbish.

I'll just post my favourites on here, which hopefully some weeks will mean 7 photos, but if you'd like to see the whole lot I will be posting them all on Flickr. Here's the 365 set.

Any other new years resolutions/goals out there?
I'm also trying to do 52 weeks again but with better quality photos more often and just to generally work harder and better :)
